The Rotunda

Designed to impress, the show-stopper is the 30-foot hand-painted ceiling created by Italian artist Giovanni Battisti Smeraldi, inspired by a Moroccan-style sun to represent the name of the home, La Colina Solana (Sunny Hill).

The design features decorative pineapples and 24-carat gold leaf. The cantilevered staircase is only supported along the edge of the wall leading the eye to the ceiling and the original custom-made brass chandelier.

Each of the three rings is a replica of a different crown. The top isFrench to honor Ada’s heritage; the middle, English in honor of William’s; and the bottom, a replica of the crown of William’s good friend, Prince Edward of Wales.

Look for the Wrigley Rose, located above the original front doors. It’s said to be a symbol of William’s undying love for his wifeAda. Roses were her favorite flower, and he said, “As the petal shall never fall from the rose, so shall my love for you never die.”

Original Catalina tiles are on the floor found throughout the house. The beautiful patterns match the stars lining the outer rim of the ceiling.
